This Beach With Sand That Looks Like Popcorn Should Be On Your Bucket List

The place is so picturesque, it’s already poppin’ with Instagrammers.

In a town called Corralejo in Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands, there’s a beach known for sand that looks just like popcorn mixed with black pepper.

Aptly named Popcorn Bay, its coast appears to have been covered with popped corn. However, a closer look reveals that the snack-like bits are actually pieces of white coral, which get their irregular shapes from the sea and friction.

Once they wash up on shore, they mix with volcanic ash and sand, creating the yummy illusion. The phenomenon isn’t new to the area, but Popcorn Bay has become really popular as of late, with people posting Instagram pics of themselves holding handfuls of kernels and pretending to eat it.

La Plage de Pop Corn ? La playa de Palomita. « Pop Corn » ?
