The 1969 Holden Hurricane, built by GM’s Australian division, was a revolutionary concept car designed to explore advanced technologies and future trends.

Powered by a mid-mounted 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 259 hp, it featured a hydraulically powered canopy instead of traditional doors and innovative seats that rose and tilted forward.

Other features included Pathfinder, which used magnetic signals built into the road to guide the driver. It also contained other advanced technology that would not become commonplace for decades such as: digital instrument displays; automatic temperature control air conditioning called Comfortron; an auto-seek radio function and a rear-view camera, which consisted of a wide angle camera in the rear bumper connected to a closed-circuit television (CCTV) screen in the center console.

Decades ahead of its time, the Hurricane introduced groundbreaking features like digital displays, automatic air conditioning, an auto-seek radio, and a rear-view camera system. Though it never entered production, it was rediscovered in 1988 and fully restored by 2011, debuting at the Motorclassica car show. Now displayed at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood, it stands as a remarkable vision of what an Australian supercar of the era could have been.
