This Photographer Captures the Chaotic, Beautiful Vitality of Taipei’s Streets in Every Frame

Chou Mo is a Taiwan-based fashion photographer known for muted tones and striking visual narratives, with editorial clients including Vogue Taiwan, Louis Vuitton, and Shiseido.

Chou Mo’s recent work includes a Louis Vuitton project for PhotoVogue’s “The Spirit of Travel” series, titled “CROSSING / 23°51’N, 120°55’E,” created for Louis Vuitton’s 130th Monogram anniversary. Shot at Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan, the project uses the symbol of a “door” as an entry point into different cultures, weaving in imagery like bamboo-woven sunflowers referencing the Thao indigenous people’s sun symbolism, mirrored metal spheres representing the moon and technology, and fish baskets tied to the lake’s traditions. Chou Mo described wanting to capture “the mixed vitality unique to Taiwanese streets” — the layered, chaotic richness found in everyday scenes like Taipei 101, traditional temples, and night market culture.
