This British Artist Creates Breathtaking Sci-Fi Worlds Filled With Ancient Ruins, Towering Cities, And Forgotten Civilizations

What will our cities look like thousands of years after we’re gone? British illustrator and concept artist Guy Warley seems fascinated by that question.
His sprawling science fiction landscapes are filled with colossal buildings, abandoned industrial structures, ancient machinery, and mysterious civilizations. Some resemble archaeological discoveries from the distant future, while others suggest entire alien societies hidden beneath layers of technology and vegetation.

Warley has a remarkable eye for scale. Tiny human figures stand beneath impossibly tall towers, futuristic cities disappear into colorful atmospheric haze, and overgrown ruins hint at histories we’ll never fully understand. His intricate linework and carefully chosen color palettes give these imaginary environments a distinctive character, somewhere between vintage science fiction book illustrations, architectural drawings, and contemporary video game concept art. There’s often a quiet, melancholy beauty to his worlds, even when they’re filled with enormous machines and intimidating structures.

Before focusing on this style of illustration, Warley spent years working in graphic design and branding. His love of science fiction literature, historical architecture, and landscape painting eventually led him toward more elaborate world-building. Today, he works as a concept designer on *Kenshi 2* at Bristol-based Lo-Fi Games, and his illustrations have appeared in projects ranging from *Halo Encyclopedia* and *Lancer RPG* to science fiction book covers and electronic music releases. Each new environment feels like a fragment of a much larger story, inviting viewers to imagine what happened there long before they arrived.
