Kurdish Dandies Start Iraq’s First Fashion Club
It’s not just about bringing fashion to Iraq. For these Kurdish peacocks it’s also about promoting a positive image of their homeland to the world. In early February 2016, a group of young men gathered in the ancient citadel at the heart of Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan Region. It was deep into the second winter of the Kurds’ war against the Islamic State and the region was mired in economic crisis. As a result, restoration work on the ancient UNESCO-listed site — said to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world — had ground to a halt, leaving the citadel with the air of an abandoned film set. Magical Drawings Put Women In Conversation With Their Inner Demons
The devil and femininity have long been entangled. From Eve’s creation of original sin to The Devil Wears Prada, women portrayed as satan are represented as the downfall of the good man. But one artist is reclaiming the devil for women and their personal demons.
In Polly Nor’s whimsical illustrated world, woman is a devil unto herself. She sheds her human skin and drinks a beer, horns out and cigarette in mouth. Her demons brush her hair in the bathtub. They hug and dream and fall asleep in pink sheets. Continue reading »

The Only 5 Types Of Romantic Comedy Posters
Romantic comedies are (arguably) the most formulaic of all movies, and studios use that rom-com formula to make a bunch of money with very little effort. Many fans enjoy the predictable nature of rom-coms, and will actually get upset if a film strays too far from the norm, so it’s no wonder filmmakers don’t even try to do anything different with the genre. In fact, romantic comedies are kept predictable right down to their poster layouts, of which there are around five types. Continue reading »
29 Clever Illustrations That Show The Differences Between Copywriters And Art Directors
In the late 1950s, advertising legend Bill Bernbach came up with the idea of pairing art directors and copywriters into teams. The strategy worked and DDB ended up creating some of the most iconic work of that era. Since then, the art-copy team structure came into existence at most, if not all, agencies. They may be working towards a common goal, but as a creative species, copywriters and art directors are not all that similar. Their differences are best highlighted on a Facebook page titled ‘CW Versus AD’ where Caio Pena (art director), Henrique Parada (art director) and Letícia Hanower (copywriter) share their cool, quirky illustrations on this subject. Artist Combined Vintage Photographs With Everyday Objects To Create Funny And Bizarre Portraits
Antiheroes is an Instagram photographic project by Spanish artist Susana Blasco that combines vintage photographs with everyday objects to create funny and bizarre portraits. The project was born by accident when Blasco was snacking on some nuts while making a collage out of antique photographs. One fell from her hand and onto the decades-old print, transforming the anonymous subject into a bizarre character, ripped from the pages of a whimsical storybook. The beauty of Blasco’s village of mutants lies in the fact that she never has to physically tear or cut the original prints as is usual in similar collages; she simply sets some object or another onto the surface of the sepia artifacts. Artist Creates An Installation That Takes From The Rich To Give To The Poor
Hunger King is an amazing installation by the artist Jani Leinonen, created in 2014 in Budapest, which diverts the famous fast food brand into a cynical criticism of capitalism. Imagined in response to the law banning the homeless from sleeping in public space, Hunger King offers two queues, one for the rich, one for the poor. The rich will enter directly by paying over 2300€, while the poor will have to wait more than six hours to enter this fake restaurant, but will receive 13€ in a burger box, the equivalent of the minimum wage in Hungary. The installation Hunger King by Jani Leinonen is a powerful response to our consumer society and the criminalization of poverty. Continue reading »
Vintage Yugoslavian Computer Magazine Cover Girls Of The 1980s-90s
In the 1980s, computers were sold like sport cars: with sexy women and pin-ups.
