North Carolina’s Abandoned ‘Wizard of Oz’ Theme Park Will Haunt You

Written as a novel by L. Frank Baum in 1900, the Wizard of Oz became an acclaimed Technicolor film in 1939. The success of that film led to the exploration of prequels and sequels desperately seeking the fame and recognition that the orignal musical film garnered. Perhaps the boldest iteration was the recreation of the Land of Oz as a theme park in North Carolina’s Beech Mountains. Photographer Johnny Joo visited the site and photographed the ruins, full of wild roots and thick fog. According to fold7 advertising agency: “Our next installment of ‘If Carlsberg did’ activity broke yesterday with the launch of the world’s first ever beer-serving poster at The Truman Brewery in Shoreditch. For one day only, the public were able to pour themselves a Carlsberg direct from the poster, which was embedded with a Carlsberg tap and a stack of glasses. Rock climber Luis Cardona recently asked his girlfriend to marry him, and his proposal totally rocked. He popped the question to Maddy Thorpe, who he met in August 2015, while the two were at Elevation Rock Gym in Logan, Utah. Enlisting the help of photographer India Earl, the two devised a plan. While Maddy was at the top of one of her climbs, Luis’s friends quietly appeared down below where they turned off all the lights and quickly decorated the gym with rose petals and string lights. Freezing Temperatures Transform Lighthouse Into Icy Giant

A winter chill has descended upon Lake Michigan, giving the St. Joseph lighthouse an otherworldly appearance, as ice clings to every inch of its surface. Photographer Joshua Nowicki and the Great Lakes Drone Company each braved the weather to get some incredible footage of the icy lighthouse. Photographer Continues To Dress Up Rescued Dogs To Draw Attention To Their Stories

The dapper dogs in clothes are back with a second series, and they’re feeling festive. Earlier this year we were introduced to UCAPS’ well dressed canines available for adoption. Photographer Tammy Swarek came up with the idea of dressing up rescue dogs to draw attention to their stories and help potential owners personally connect with them. Tammy, from Arkansas, drew her inspiration from Facebook after spotting another portrait project for sheltered animals. So she contacted her local dog shelter, the Union County Animal Protection Society (UCAPS) and has worked closely with shelter manager Tanja Jackson ever since. Continue reading »
