National Geographic Travel Photographer Of The Year 2016 Winners
The annual National Geographic travel photographer of the year contest attracted 10,000 entries worldwide this year. The grand prize went to Anthony Lau for his shot of a horseman in Inner Mongolia, winning him a trip to a polar bear photo safari at Churchill Wild-Seal Heritage Lodge. The Winter in Inner Mongolia is very unforgiving. At a freezing temperature of minus twenty and lower with constant breeze of snow from all direction, it was pretty hard to convince myself to get out of the car and take photos. Not until I saw Inner Mongolia horsemen showing off their skills in commanding the steed from a distance, I quickly grab my telephoto lens and capture the moment when one of the horseman charged out from morning mist. Sliding Down The Skyslide In LA

For those who love to pair spectacular views with an adrenaline rush, a ride on the recently opened Skyslide is the perfect combination of both. Visitors can experience Skyslide’s unparalleled, panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles from within an enclosed glass slide that is suspended 1,000 feet above ground. The slide begins on the 70th floor of the U.S. Bank Tower, the tallest building on the West Coast, and extends 45 feet down to the 69th floor. Senji Nakajima, claims he enjoys the ‘perfect’ relationship with ‘Saori’ – even taking the dummy out shopping to buy it fancy outfits – despite the fact that he is married to a woman with whom he has two children. Senji, 61, from Nagano, lives with his life size doll in his apartment in Tokyo where he enjoys a physical relationship with it – but he claims he is happy because his plastic companion isn’t ‘after only money’. The overall awards winners have been announced in the 2016 Atkins Ciwem environmental photographer of the year competition, an annual international showcase for thought-provoking photography and video that tackles a wide range of environmental themes.
The environmental photographer of the year 2016 is awarded to Sara Lindström for her imposing photograph “Wildfire”.
Swedish-born Sara picked up photography while studying in South Africa, and is now based in the Canadian Rockies. Her projects have seen her travel across more than 50 countries, capturing the beauty of the more remote corners of the Earth. “It was an exceptionally warm day in July in southern Alberta when I came across this massive pinkish smoke plume rising high towards the sky.
