If Modern Movies Would’ve Been Released On VHS Cassette

1

Audio and visual formats go out of style so fast that digital streaming now seems quaint, and we sort of skipped Blu-ray completely. Which is odd when you think about it, as the first home video format seemed like a miracle in its day.

Sure, the tapes wore out quickly, as did the players, but there was simply something magical about removing your VHS tape from its cheap cardboard sleeve packaging and popping it in your VHS player (raise your hand if you’re old enough to remember adjusting the “tracking” on your video Cassette Reader).

Luckily, we are not the only ones who miss this bygone era sometimes. The Instagram account OfftrackOutlet pays tribute to a forgotten, yet important part of movie history by showing us what modern day movies would’ve looked like, were they released on VHS cassettes back then. The cover art — some hand-drawn, some lurid — are especially emblematic to this era in movie history.
