To My Valentine: George Willard Bonte’s Tuck Postcards From the Early 20th Century

George Willard Bonte Postcard 1

George Willard Bonte, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, was an author, artist, poet, cartoonist, and political consultant who found solace in the unusual.

After completing his education at the Cincinnati School of Technology, he moved to New York City in 1900 to become an assistant art editor at the New York Herald. By 1920, he left the newspaper business to work on illustrations and promotional pieces in the motion picture industry until his retirement in 1936. Bonte had a passion for creating original comic art and cartooning, often signing his work with a cat-like character with a heart-shaped face. He passed away at the age of 73, in his home on West 95th Street in New York City, on March 13, 1946.
