Illustrator Fedor Barkhatov Turns Digital Paint Into Poetry, Giving Fog, Silence, and Distant Gateways an Emotional Presence

Fedor Barkhatov (known as Fedos), a self-taught artist based in Saint Petersburg who creates atmospheric, surreal, and dark-fantasy landscapes. Maintaining an extensive daily and weekly painting archive of over 1,000 artworks since 2016, his feed functions as an unfolding visual diary of moody wanderers, misty pine forests, ancient monoliths, and glowing celestial gateways.

Barkhatov summarizes his creative ethos with the phrase: “born from fog, carrying an insight sharp enough to cut the void”. That poetic tone carries directly into his brushwork. His compositions rarely rely on intricate dialogue or complex plot lines; instead, atmosphere drives the narrative.

A lone cloaked traveler standing before a towering stone archway, sun filtering through low morning haze, or silhouettes dissolving into a pine forest under twilight are recurring motifs. He captures the quiet tension of solitary journeys, making vast natural environments feel both sacred and slightly ominous.
