This Thai Architect Designs Real Buildings by Day and Dystopian New Lands by Night

Witchaya “Mean” Jingjit is a Thai architect and speculative designer, currently working as a Senior Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects in London, after previously holding a senior role at Coop Himmelblau.

Jingjit earned a Master of Architecture from the University of Applied Arts Vienna, studying under Hani Rashid and other tutors, where his thesis work explored ambitious, technology-driven urban futures. His project “Mechanomorph (Hydro)City – The Future of Bangkok” proposed a symbiotic urban system merging nature and technology to protect Bangkok from rising flood risk, while another Vienna project reimagined transport infrastructure inspired by the Norse mythological tree Yggdrasil.

His speculative, visionary streak extends into digital rendering as well: his image “Finding a New Land,” depicting an astronaut discovering new territory in a dystopian, post-human world, was recognized in the 2021 Arch Out Loud “Render of the Year” awards. More recent posts on his account explore ideas like how a bridge across Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River could evolve into a cultural landmark, continuing his pattern of blending infrastructure, culture, and speculative futures.
