Stunning images reveal the vulnerable beauty of abandoned cars that have been left to rust over the years. The collection of spectacular images show how a Volkswagen Beetle, Citroën C2 and even a Ferrari have been taken over by nature and piles of rubble. In other shots, a Mercedes Benz is overgrown with ivy and an old-fashioned BMW has been left in a garage with a collapsing roof and debris on the floor. A Ford vehicle has also been forgotten in the woods and one car even appears to have a tree growing from it. North Carolina’s Abandoned ‘Wizard of Oz’ Theme Park Will Haunt You
Written as a novel by L. Frank Baum in 1900, the Wizard of Oz became an acclaimed Technicolor film in 1939. The success of that film led to the exploration of prequels and sequels desperately seeking the fame and recognition that the orignal musical film garnered. Perhaps the boldest iteration was the recreation of the Land of Oz as a theme park in North Carolina’s Beech Mountains. Photographer Johnny Joo visited the site and photographed the ruins, full of wild roots and thick fog. Rubjerg Knude lighthouse, northern Jutland, Denmark. This lighthouse was built on the top of a cliff in 1900 and ceased operating in 1968. With coastal erosion and continually shifting sands a major problem in the area, it is anticipated that by 2023 the cliff will have been eroded so far that the lighthouse will fall into the sea. These sand-swept images show the ghostly remains of what was once a mineral-rich mining community. In its heyday, the town of Kolmanskop, Namibia (previously), was home to about 700 families. Now all that remains are empty homes filled with sand, while cast-off items such as bathtubs are scattered about the surrounding area. Over time, the sand of the stunning dunes that encircle the town of Kolmanskop has been blown towards the abandoned residences, coating everything from streets to the interiors of houses and workshops. Contadora Island Resort In Panama Became An Abandoned And Forgotten Place
Contadora Island is a Panamanian island on the Pearl Islands archipelago (in the Gulf of Panama). A lavish resort was built there in the 60s, but it has been abandoned since and almost completely forgotten.
