The images look straight out of a fairytale, showing a softer side to the big predator. Russian Goldilocks called Darya Gubanova comes from Barnaul (3576 km from Moscow). Darya hasn’t visited a hairdresser for 13 years. In 2003, she made the decision that she will leave her hair to grow all the way to her toes, and she has not shortened her hair ever since. Russian artist Michael Zajkov’s skills are so precise, that the dolls he creates look disturbingly lifelike. The dolls are made of polymer clay, hand painted glass eyes, and mohair hair. Dressed in a Victorian era style, they have multiple movable joints. But the most frightening part is their faces. The artist works on every detail in order to delicately bring out explicit features and facial mimicry of each doll. The outcome is fascinating. They look as though they are about to come to life. What Russian Empire Looked Like Before 1917… In Color

The Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii Collection features color photographic surveys of the vast Russian Empire made between ca. 1905 and 1915. Frequent subjects among the 2,607 distinct images include people, religious architecture, historic sites, industry and agriculture, public works construction, scenes along water and railway transportation routes, and views of villages and cities. An active photographer and scientist, Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) undertook most of his ambitious color documentary project from 1909 to 1915. “Elat’ma, the Ryazan Oblast region of Russia. This small town is only 300 kilometers (186 miles) from modern Moscow but remains 60 years in the past, dominated by the spirit of socialism. The air of the communist ‘50s can be seen in the town’s architecture, celebrations and other occurrences. Sometimes called the “Switzerland of Ryazan”, Elat’ma has the natural charm of the countryside. But neither its beauty nor its ties to a socialist past brought photographer Anastasia Rudenko to this village. It has a different significance to her, both personal and professional.
