A Stunning Sculptural Outdoor Pavilion For A New Property Development In China

Marc Fornes & The Very Many designed a large-scale sculptural outdoor pavilion on the elevated plaza of the Suzhou Center in China, as part of the Jinji Lake Biennial. Named ‘Boolean Operator’, the installation has been crafted from white aluminum, with the design featuring a ‘porous shell’, that casts a delicate shadow. The installation is made from 1,673 stripes (CNC cut), with 20 spheroids, 21 flairs, and 26 structural nodes. Continue reading »

According to Martin Davenhall: “The bear itself is one of a kind. The very first to have been made in this way. It is made from thousands of shards of granite and engineered stone, individually cut and polished by hand. Then glued together. It is a very time-consuming process. And difficult, especially in the winter as the stone is always cold and you need water to polish the pieces. Born with a rare condition, the artist has chronicled her life in portraits – capturing everything from her tattooed prosthetics to the tentacled creature she stitched together on the shores of Naoshima. Katayama was born with tibial hemimelia, an extremely rare condition that stops bones in the lower legs from fully developing, often leaving them foreshortened.
