Adoptive Mother Connects with Daughter Through Creative Cosplay Portrait Series
In 2012, photographer Kelly Lewis and her husband adopted younger Alice Lewis into their household. Between Alice’s dream of turning into a mannequin/actress, Kelly’s ardour for images, and all the household’s love of cosplay, the trio shortly discovered the mutual floor that may forge a deep bond between Alice and her adoptive mother and father.

Norway Will Cut Through An Island In Tribute To Massacre Victims
How do you adequately craft a memorial for one of the worst days in a country’s modern history? That’s the question that was posed to architects and artists as part of a competition for a dual-site memorial commemorating the attacks in Norway on July 22nd, 2011. On that day, 77 people were killed, eight by an Oslo car bomb and 69 in a massacre at a youth event on the island of Utøya. After holding an open competition, Norway has decided to install a pair of memorials designed by Swedish artist Jonas Dahlberg to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the attacks. Gucci’s Sheer and See-through Ensembles Upstage Milan Fashion Show: ‘Dark Glamour’ for Autumn/Winter 2012
Gucci kicked-off the Italian fashion season with its sheer and see-through “dark glamour” ensembles at the Milan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2012 Wednesday. Unlike most fashion shows this year that featured bright colors, aesthetic patterns and embellished corsets as an imminent fashion trend for the next winter, Gucci’s designers came up with incredibly different “dark glamour” collection. The creations were dominated mostly by murky colors like black, shades of green, burgundy and blue.
Models flaunted ruffled chiffon chemises, sequin work on opulent sheer outfits, fleece on the overcoats, velvet jackets and flashy sexy costumes accessorized with classy Gucci bags on the first day. Continue reading »
Assembly: A Sense of Comfort through Proximity
Assembly is a project of Lorea Sinclaire, canadian industrial designer, and the collaboration between a haptic wearable device and a network of proximity. The goal of this research project was to create a user experience that promotes safety and comfort in the urban environment.
The wearable device uses symbolic language to communicate a need or receive a notification. For example different touch gestures imply different meanings. Doing up a button will send out passive signals of your location. stroking the discrete lining of the hem will send out a ‘friend call’. A combination of two hands swiping the outer arms implies you need serious help.
This user interaction utilizes embroidered conductive thread as touch sensors, and an integrated GPS module to send out location. Continue reading »
Drive Through
Hollywood stuntman Rocky Taylor breaks a Guinness world record in London on Sept. 13 by jumping a speeding BMW through the largest sheet of breakaway glass ever smashed by a car. The feat marked ‘Remember a Charity’ week, aimed at convincing more people to leave things to charity organizations in their will. Working with the charity behind the campaign, the 64-year-old stuntman has performed a series of live stunts since August, including a re-enactment of the stunt from the 1985 action film “Death Wish 3” that nearly killed him. During the filming, the exploding building he was supposed to jump from blew up too early, causing Taylor to fall and break his back.
Stockholm Red Bull Soapbox Race: Limos, Jets and Boats Careen Through the Streets
The streets of Stockholm, Sweden saw more crashes than usual over the weekend, as a variety of unusual vehicles met their untimely demise. But it was all in fun, as competitors raced their homemade, freestyle designed non-motorized vehicles down a slope in the Soedermalm area of the city in the Stockholm Red Bull Soapbox Race.
