What World’s Famous Landmarks Could Look Like In An Epic Drought
A graphic designer has produced a haunting look at what the world’s most famous landmarks would look like if they were hit by a severe drought. Joel Krebs has intricately dried up hot spots such as the Tower Bridge in London, the Capitol in Washington, D.C., Niagara Falls and Machu Picchu. The designer’s works are enough to make viewers feel thirsty – they feature cracked surfaces, roll upon roll of sand, and vultures searching for carcasses in the dry heat. Joel, from Salem, Ore., revealed the idea behind the series came to him when he entered a design contest to remove famous landmarks from their surroundings, as if they’d disappeared. The Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya is a waterfall located in southern Africa on the Zambezi River between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. U-118, a World War One Submarine Washed Ashore on the Beach at Hastings, England
When the people of the town of Hastings awoke one morning to see one of the Kaiser’s U-boats on their beach, it caused some shock. Thousands of visitors flocked to see the beached submarine. The Admiralty allowed the town clerk to charge a fee for people to climb on the deck. Two members of the coastguard were tasked with showing important visitors around inside the submarine.
