Artist Adam Szubski Created Fascinating Sculptures Of The Residents of Zgon Village in Poland
The artist behind these sculptures is Adam Szubski (1931–2008), a former stonemason who also experimented with metal and mixed materials.
His works are deeply personal, portraying friends and acquaintances—many of whom were fellow residents of Zgon, Poland. The sculptures capture them in a variety of lifelike poses: some seated near the house, others seemingly wandering in a nearby meadow, and many standing in the garden, as if frozen in time during a visit they never left. A particularly striking feature is a set of busts arranged on a ladder, creating a unique and almost surreal composition. Over time, their weathered expressions, coupled with the natural decay of the materials, lend the site an eerie, timeless atmosphere.
