Japanese Illustrator Creates Dreamy Digital Landscapes With Tiny Figures, Moons And Houses Suspended In Quiet, Poetic Night Skies

Akira Kusaka (日下 明) is a contemporary Japanese illustrator and graphic designer based in Osaka, known for dreamy, poetic scenes where small human figures, animals and architecture float in vast, quiet spaces.
Working entirely in Photoshop, he creates softly lit, surreal images that feel like visual haiku—night skies, moons, bicycles, houses and forests arranged with delicate colour and clean shapes to evoke nostalgia, solitude and gentle wonder. Beyond client work for advertisements, book covers and children’s picture books, he also performs as a trombone player in the art‑and‑music duo “repair,” connecting his visual world with sound and poetry.
