Carlos Bañón Is Redefining Architecture Through AI And Computational Design

Carlos Bañón is an architect, professor, and computational design researcher based in Singapore, and his work sits right at the crossroads of architecture, AI, and digital fabrication. He co-founded AirLab and has taught at institutions including MIT, AA, EPFL, and PA, which already tells you this is someone working at a serious international level.

What stands out immediately is the scale of the ideas. His recent work uses generative systems to produce architecture that feels fluid, geometric, and future-facing, often tied to resource-efficient and computational design thinking.

There’s also a strong public-facing identity around innovation. He’s been connected to major awards and exhibitions, including the Singapore President’s Design Award, and his work has appeared in venues like the Venice Biennale and the London Design Museum. The overall impression is of an architect who doesn’t treat technology as decoration — he treats it as the engine of form.
