Jack Oliva-Rendler’s Work Shows Why the Most Important Architecture of the Future May Be the Kind You Explore Before It Exists

Jack Oliva-Rendler is a Los Angeles–based architect, designer, researcher, and educator exploring how 3D modeling, GIS, algorithms, and artificial intelligence can reshape ecological and urban design. He is the co-founder and CEO of AURA Engine, author of Terrestrial Architecture, and a professor of architecture at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.

Oliva-Rendler’s work moves beyond the conventional architectural question of how to design a building. Instead, it asks how designers can understand entire environmental systems — from individual plants and city blocks to watersheds, regions, and the planet itself — before making irreversible interventions. His research combines digital 3D modeling, GIS, and algorithmic processes to develop ecological and infrastructural solutions across multiple scales.
