Architects Adds Treetop Cabin With Stargazing Net To Sweden’s Treehotel
Architecture firm Snøhetta has completed a treetop cabin for the Treehotel in northern Sweden, featuring charred-timber cladding and a suspended net for observing the Northern Lights. Set 10 metres above the forest floor in the crown of a tall pine tree and supported by 12 columns, The 7th Room provides views out over Swedish Lapland, to the Lule River and of the aurora borealis. Freezing Temperatures Transform Lighthouse Into Icy Giant
A winter chill has descended upon Lake Michigan, giving the St. Joseph lighthouse an otherworldly appearance, as ice clings to every inch of its surface. Photographer Joshua Nowicki and the Great Lakes Drone Company each braved the weather to get some incredible footage of the icy lighthouse. East Side Collective, a co-working design studio featuring co-founder Tim Derrington and member Wilson Hanks, along with Drophouse Design have recently worked together to create a temporary installation as part of the Waller Creek Conservancy’s “Creek Show“, in Austin, Texas. “Deep Curiosity” is an illuminated arch that rises up out of the water and surrounds a foot bridge over the Waller Creek to create the illusion of a never ending circle that inspires imaginative thought and an appreciation for both the natural and man-made elements found in and around the same area. Located in the Swedish village of Jukkasjarvi, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle and next to the shores of the Torne River, sits the ICEHOTEL. A hotel that’s been built and rebuilt every year since 1989 using ice from the Torne River. This year however, the newly designed ICEHOTEL 365 is being unveiled. Fantastic Cave Art By Ra Paulette
Ra Paulette (previously) is an American cave sculptor based in New Mexico who digs into hillsides to sculpt elaborate artistic spaces inside mountains. Reviewer Martha Mendoza in the Los Angeles Times described the caves he created as shrines, as hallowed places, a “sanctuary for prayer and meditation” while others describe the caves as works of art. The caves are finished with “scallops, molded curves, smooth ledges, inlaid stones, narrow pods and crusty ledges”. His caves attract visitors worldwide. Continue reading »

The Bridges Along The River Thames In London Are To Be Lit Up As A Beautiful Piece Of Art
Six proposals have been shortlisted as part of the Illuminated River competition, which is aimed not only at delivering visually outstanding designs, but ones that make use of new technologies. The project was launched in June and has funding of £10 million (US$12.4 million) pledged to it so far. It will see 17 bridges illuminated from Chelsea to London’s financial district celebrating the river and making it more a part of London’s night-time economy.
