2014 National Geographic Photo Contest, Week 1
“Dreamscape”. A stunning sunset painted the sky over the Jokulsarlon Glacer Lagoon in South Iceland. It was a typical cloudy day in the Icelandic summer. The day was not hoping for a nice sunset, but I still decided to go on the spot, hoping to finally see the sun once the same had left behind the clouds. When the sun went down, in fact the sky burned out in an incredible vanilla tone. The scene was so peaceful and placid, so I decided to capture it with a long exposure, to bring out the amazing sense of oniric peace that this amazing sunset created. First Place Winner: “The Independence day”. While on storm chasing expeditions in the Tornado Alley in USA I have encountered many photogenic supercell storms. This photograph was taken while we were approaching the storm near Julesburg, Colorado on My 28th, 2013. The storm was tornado warned for more than one hour, but stayed an LP storm through all its cycles and never produced a tornado, just occasional brief funnels, large hail and some rain. Pornhub Will Use One Of These Clever Ads In Its First National Ad Campaign
Those who have been waiting with bated breath for the results of Pornhub’s SFW advertising contest were assuaged today with the unveiling of 15 finalists. And there’s quite the smattering of innuendo and suggestion in this batch, featuring a few videos, some clever image and word plays, and some that almost literally spell it out.
To those just tuning in, the site challenged the world to make G-rated, family-friendly ads for the site in March. Check out the finalists below and vote on PornHub’s SFW tumblr.

National Geographic Concludes What Americans Will Look Like in 2050
It’s no secret that interracial relationships are trending upward, and in a matter of years we’ll have Tindered, OKCupid-ed and otherwise sexed ourselves into one giant amalgamated mega-race.

“Epiphany ”. One of my dreams was it to shoot the night sky when I went on holiday to New Zealand this February. Unfortunately the time was not perfect because of the moon, which was at the beginning nearly the whole night at the sky and also the weather made me change plans. At the end of my trip I had luck an get a clear sky after the sunset although the whole day was very cloudy. I decided to drive to the famous little church in Tekapo and took some shots of the night sky before the moon rose. “Morning Frolics!” This Fox family had their den just down the way a bit from my cabin. On this particular day, everyone was out enjoying an early morning romp. There is action everywhere here!! One kit leaps an another is busy sneaking up on him. There were so many things happening, it was hard to keep up with it all. And, two of the kits didn’t even get in this image! National Geographic invites photographers from around the world to enter the 2013 National Geographic Photography Contest. The grand-prize winner will receive $10,000 (USD) and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2014.
Eligible contestants can visit www.ngphotocontest.com to submit photographs in one or all of three categories: People, Places and Nature. Entry fee is $15 (USD) per photo, and there is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant. Entries must be in digital format and submitted electronically. The contest, which is now open, ends Saturday, November 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET (U.S.).
“Eastern Screech Owls like to take over woodpecker nests that have been dug out over the years in pine trees, which are the main species of tree at this swamp. Fish and wildlife also paint a white ring around the base of a tree that has active nests in order to avoid when conducting controlled burns. Screech owls can range in height anywhere from 8-10 inches, so you have to have a sharp eye to find these little birds of prey. I spent the first few weeks of April this year photographing the grey morph screech owl that was living in the nest, and had no idea there were three owlets inside”. Tiger Cubs Take Swimming Test at Smithsonian National Zoo
The Smithsonian National Zoo’s Sumatran tiger cubs took a swim reliability test at the zoo’s moat in Washington, Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013. The two 13-week-old Sumatran male and female cubs named Bandar and Sukacita, were able to keep their heads above water, navigate to the shallow end of the moat and climb onto dry land, passing this critical step. The cubs are ready to explore the yard with their mother, 4-year-old Damai.
