“Blow Job”: Strong Air To Face Photoshooting By The Photographer Tadas Cerniauskas
Lithuanian photographer Tadas Cerniauskas (previously) invited hundreds of people to have their pictures taken… while a wind machine was blasted into their faces. His name for the endeavour? ‘Blow Job’. A ho ho ho, indeed. The still images that came from this project were pretty damn impressive in and of themselves – see our picture gallery below – but now that he’s also released a video to accompany the snaps, our jaws have well and truly (metaphorically) dropped. National Geographic Nature Photographer Of The Year 2016 Winners
The annual National Geographic travel photographer of the year contest attracted 10,000 entries worldwide this year. Selected from thousands of entries, an underwater photo of sardine predation off the Wild Coast of South Africa was selected as the winning image for the 2016 National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year contest. Here’s a selection of the winning entries.
1st Place-Action + Grand Prize: Sardine Run
During the sardine migration along the Wild Coast of South Africa, millions of sardines are preyed upon by marine predators such as dolphins, marine birds, sharks, whales, penguins, sailfishes, and sea lions. The hunt begins with common dolphins that have developed special hunting techniques to create and drive bait balls to the surface. In recent years, probably due to overfishing and climate change, the annual sardine run has become more and more unpredictable. Photographer Nei Valente Creates An Urban Photo Series Of The NYC Newsstands
Nei Valente is a 27 year old Brazilian designer and street photographer. He is currently living in NYC and working at Brand Union. His latest series, “NYC newsstand”, tries to portray the current reality of the classic New York newsstands and the characters that live in and through them to create the debate about their future in the digital era. The series dialogues with the 1994 Moyra Davey series “Newsstands” that shows a completely different reality and aesthetic. Nei finds that the interesting thing about having a lot of portraits in the same theme is that you can compare and analyze how are they adapting to this new world and observe that while some keep the magazines and newspapers in front, others are giving priority to candies, snacks and souvenirs. Paramedic Chris Porsz spent hours walking around the city of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire (Great Britain) in the late 1970s and 80s, taking candid shots of punks and policemen, siblings and sweethearts, traders and teenagers. More than three decades later, Chris has reconstructed a handful of his favourite photos from his collection. He spent the last seven years tracking down the people in his pictures and persuading them to pose once again. His hard work paid off and he has now published his photos in a new book, “Reunions”. When Dutch photographer Marcel Heijnen moved to Hong Kong, he noticed something quite interesting about the traditional shops there – most of them have their own cats living inside! So fascinated with this culture of shop cats, Heijnen couldn’t resist photographing the feline fellows. He even created an Instagram account featuring the Chinese kitties and uploads new photos of them regularly. Shop cats, market cats, alley cats – he’s captured them all! Photographer Tests Her Skills With A One Dollar Camera
Photographer Skyler Adams decided to put her skills to the test when she took pictures with nothing but a one dollar camera for an entire month. She bought a Canon Sure Shot for only $1 along with an expired roll of film, and she got to work. Film processing and scanning was $8 more, so Skyler spent $10 for the whole experiment.
