This Artist Makes a Living Selling Terrible Origami On Etsy

Etsy user MrImprov is testing the adage that art is what you can get away with, selling terrible origami for $50,000 or less. Below are some of his reasonably-priced creations.

Commemorative Snow Pile – US$20.00

Celebrate the season with this commemorative pile of shredded paper! Each “snowflake” is folded differently, so the these piles are unique as Mother Nature herself! Terribly made.

Million Dollar Frog – US$50,000.00

This origami frog is the e-pity-me of style and luxury! Crafted from 100 sheets of high-quality card stock and 6 rolls of 3M Green Apple Duct Tape, this guy will make all your millionaire friends jealous!

Frog is about 4 feet long by 4 feet wide. Approximately knee high.

I taped a secret inside the frog somewhere, so it’s extra special. “Dissect” him and discover the mystery, or live boldly with the knowledge that this frog holds something special.

Truly elegant.

Fortune Cookie Accordian – US$96.00

A squiggly button accordion design based on the real thing! Fortune on the paper says “A small lucky package is on its way to you soon”. Lucky numbers: 7, 9, 13, 14, 20, 25. Terribly made.

Steampunk Tissue Bracelet – US$250.00

Fufill your most outrageous fantasies and desires with this gorgeous design made out of teal tissue paper. This bracelet is super steam punk, so it’s just like you’re in the movie Men in Black 2. Or maybe it was 3. I can’t remember because I never saw that one. Terribly made.

Bunny Snack Log – US$83.00

Cook some s’mores with this sweet log made from a fruit snack box! Actually, you could really burn it if you wanted to, but I doubt it would last as long as a real life log. Terribly made.

Volkswagen MINI – US$97.00

Honk honk! Out of the way of this sporty VW automobile folded from a MINI “Cooper” advertisement. The steering wheel is on the left for this car, so please keep that in mind. Terribly made.

Rainbow Paper Rainbow – US$88.00

If you squint hard enough, you can see a leprokhan sneaking around underneath. Terribly made.

Ten Thousand Dollar Frog – US$10,000.00

The design that started a revolution! This is the original prototype design for its big brother, Million Dollar Frog. What a bargain basement price for a classic design!!! About the size of 4 decks of cards. Perhaps a little bigger. DELUXURIOUS.

Cat Food Cone – US$92.00

BEEP BEEP! OUT OF THE WAY! There is some construction being done and what better thing to let people know about construction than a cone! This was folded from a piece of a cat food bag, so you can almost smell like you were hanging out with cats! How sweet! Terribly made.

Coffee Sleeve Rock – US$98.00

Modeled to look like a rock you would find in the dessert. Terribly made.

Renewal Notice Sailor Hat – US$71.00

This fine sailor hat design was created with half of an envelope sent to me by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. It used to contain information for a motor vehicle renewal. What a find! Terribly made.

Beer Wrapper Red Skunk – US$100.00

Another majestic animal design folded to look like the very rare “red” skunk. Fashioned from the wrapper off of a beer bottle. As a bonus, it has some lines from a play written on the back in small, but legible handwriting. Terribly made.

Baseball Card Dinosaur – US$88.00

A therizinosaur (type of dinosaur I found out about on Wikipedia) fashioned from a 1991 baseball card.

Peeping Program Hut – US$85.00

Indigenous hut design using a piece of the program from a very famous performance artist. Do you know who she is? I wish you did. Terribly made.

Flowa Powa Dolla Bill – US$87.00

A coneflower design (pronounced echinacea) fancily folded out of a dollar bill. Terribly made.

Honey Nut Chariot – US$100.00

Family size so that the whole family can fit! JK, actually, this is approximately the size of a cereal box. A magnificent chariot design. Terribly made.

Bus Pass Bus – US$92.00

This bus has a ticket to ride! Literally! I folded up a coupon for one free ride on a bus into a bus. Expires December 31st, 2015. Terribly made.

Adhesive Liner Dental Grille – US$92.00

Be the cool hip hop artist you always wanted to be with this custom folded dental grille. Fashioned from an adhesive strip off the back of an envelope, this grille is coated in plastic so can take multiple uses before getting too soggy. Buy one today! Terribly made.
