Nikolai Alexandrovich Yaroshenko (1846–1898) was a Russian painter of Ukrainian descent and a prominent member of the Peredvizhniki, or Wanderers, from 1876.

Known as “the conscience of the Itinerants” for his integrity, he retired as a Major General in 1892. Yaroshenko’s works, including portraits and genre paintings, often depicted the hardships of life in the Russian Empire, and he became a leading figure in Eastern European realism during the late 19th century.
