“Gothic Times”: Artist Spends 14 Months Creating The Most Incredible Ghost Pirate Ship Sculpture

Jason Stieva has been doing Gothic assemblage art for roughly two decades, but his most intricate and impressive creation has to be the Leviathan – Ark of Apocalypse, an 8 feet high, 7.5 feet long ghost ship populated by hundreds of strange creatures.

Most of the artworks in Jason Stieva’s ongoing “Gothic Times” series are incredibly detailed, but he himself admits that the Leviathan – Ark of the Apocalypse was his most daunting project ever, and that he will most likely will never make anything like it again. And just looking at pictures of this incredible artwork, you can understand why.

Although measuring over 7 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width and standing at a whopping 8 feet tall, this ghostly ship is brimming with detail. From the steampunk-inspired gears at the bottom of the ship and the dozens of cannons dominating its sides, to the hundreds of skeletons and other ghastly creatures populating its deck and multiple crow’s nests, it’s just so much to take in.

“Shipping Leviathan – Ark of the Apocalypse was by far the most stressful day at Shallow Grave and we only had to drive a half an hour to deliver her,” the artist said in an interview with Beautiful Bizarre. “She’s pretty big at eight feet tall (on a seven foot custom display table), two and a half feet wide, and roughly 200 pounds. She took me 14 months to complete. In the end we got her there in one piece.”

Finally got around to getting some decent video and pictures of “Preacherman and the Union of Funk” #8 in my Gothic Times Series..One of my favourites and second largest assemblage thus far…For all you Star Wars nutters👊This piece was a long time in the making no doubt since the Dark Force was planted firmly when I was a kid..Seems George Lucas had a way of grabbin hold and not lettin go!!🤙 So it only seemed fitting many years later to create a Gothic themed tribute!! Preacherman was built roughly 6 years ago takin a year to complete and about 6 months of searching every back alley..carnie mart..garage sale..flea market and antique shop for characters…bits N pieces! A good friend and very talented artist @lishmetal gave me some welding tips and it was game time. This was a ton of fun to build and learned a bunch..Also has some moving working parts..On display at my studio @sinful_inflictions Overall size 6.5ft H X 3ft W X 18” D ..Will share some detailed pictures and video over the next little bit👊 Thanx 4 the support! @jasonstieva @sullenclothing @starwars #gothic #starwars #sculpture #gothictimes #assemblageart #jackofthedust #skulls #timepiece #art_motive #art_daily #art_collective #arts_help #artdiscover #oddity #redtruckgallery
