Japanese Engineer Perfectly Re-Creates Models From The Popular ’80s Sci-Fi Saga For His Son
If you are not familiar with Maschinen Krieger (abbreviated as Ma.K) here is a little bit of background. The franchise was started by Kow Yokoyama in the 1980’s. Yokoyama-san was a scratch-build modeller, artist and sculptor. Among his works he built machines of war that would fight in the 29th century, but took their visual cues from early 19th century weaponry and the early NASA space program. All his models were pieced together from numerous kits including armor, aircraft, cars and found objects (like ping pong balls). Continue reading »
Photographer Travelled The World To Document Children And The Food They Eat In A Week
Photographer Gregg Segal travelled the world to document children and the food they eat in a week. Partly inspired by the increasing problems of childhood obesity, he tracked traditional regional diets as yet unaffected by globalisation, and ironically, found that the healthiest diets were often eaten by the least well off.
Meissa Ndiaye, 11, Dakar, Senegal, 2017. Ndiaye shares a single room with his dad, mum and brother in the heart of Parcelles Assainies, which means “sanitized plots”. A treeless, sandy suburb of Dakar, Parcelles Assainies was developed in the 1970s to house the poor overflowing from the city. Ndiaye, a devout Muslim and student at Quran School, loves sweet foods, such as a porridge, and goat meat, although in the week he kept a diary of his meals, he ate very little meat. This Artist Uses Image Editing To Sculpt Icebergs, And No Icebergs Were Harmed In The Making Of This Art

On October 16, Nasa published a photo of a perfectly squared iceberg. The picture quickly went viral, coupled with a few conspiracy theories qualifying this as the work of aliens. However, the phenomenon is rather common according to the scientists. Tabular icebergs are parts of large blocks of ice which are connected to the land. One day, just “like a fingernail growing too long and cracking off the end”, they explain, they split from the edge of the block, following the pattern of the ice cracks. 3D Printed Cylinders Tower Over Mars Surface In Latest Design For Habitat Challenge
NASA’s 3D Printed Habitat Challenge has seen several companies competing for a high honor – to design the first habitats for humans on Mars and the moon. Using 3D printing, these competitors have proven their ability to create structures such as cones, cylinders and beams. The most recent phase of the competition takes things to a new level by asking the teams to present their ideas for entire structures. A lot of the ideas offered thus far have been low dome-like structures, some partially buried in the ground. Artist Luke Jerram’s Seven Meter Diameter Moon Continues Its Travels Around The Globe
Museum of the Moon is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram.

Grand Prize. African Lionesses, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya: Lions are the only truly social cats; the females and offspring reside together in prides. Typically hunting in groups, the lionesses prey mostly on large hoofed mammals. Within each pride, females will often reproduce in synchrony and cross-suckle their cubs. “It was early morning in the Great Rift Valley as we searched for a famous pride of lionesses. Since it was very cold, the females were piled on top of each other, forming groups and staying close. This particular set grabbed my attention because they were staring glassy-eyed in different directions. I wanted to capture all possible details in the frame with a tight crop to make a striking black and white conversion”. Stunning New Close-Ups Show Saturn’s Rings At Double The Detail We’ve Ever Seen
NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has entered its “ring-grazing” phase as it approaches the planet’s icy orbiters. As part of its mission, the craft has transmitted images of the rings at twice the resolution that humans have even been able to achieve previously (see full resolution photos here). An ‘Infinite’ Galaxy Puzzle That Can Be Built In Any Direction
The team over at Nervous System recently designed this fun Infinite Galaxy Puzzle that tiles continuously in any direction. Pieces from the top can be removed and added to the bottom, and likewise from side to side. So regardless of where you start the puzzle can continue in a seemingly infinite series of patterns. Each puzzle is printed with satellite imagery obtained from NASA and includes a few themed pieces like an astronaut, shuttle, and satellite.
