Hyper‑detailed Pen‑and‑ink Worlds Define Peter Van Den Ende’s Style: Frozen Poles, Mangrove Mazes And Mechanical Depths

Peter van den Ende is a Belgian illustrator and author born in Antwerp in 1985, best known for his debut wordless picture book The Wanderer (Zwerveling), a hand-drawn epic following a paper boat’s fantastical ocean journey through ink-black seas, mechanical sea monsters, icy poles and alien depths.

Trained in biology but always doodling, he worked as a nature guide in the Cayman Islands before committing to art full-time; his style features hyper-detailed, monochromatic pen-and-ink worlds packed with symbolism, creatures and impossible architecture that invite endless discovery for all ages. The Wanderer won awards like the Dilys Evans Founder’s Award, appeared in Best Dutch Book Designs and Ilustrarte selections, and has been translated widely, while he now teaches workshops, exhibits originals and works on new projects like dinosaur sketches.
