Nathalie Charrié Creates Ceramic Creatures That Feel Born Somewhere Between Nature, Myth, and Instinct

Nathalie Charrié is a ceramic sculptor based in Toulouse. She studied at isdaT, lives and works in Toulouse, and builds her practice around animal and plant life, drawing on sources that range from entomology and medieval bestiaries to engraving and etymology.

Her sculptures are filled with hybrid creatures — part animal, part vegetal, sometimes strangely human in their emotional charge. She works with stoneware, faience, raku, raku nu, and smoke firing, often combining ceramic with glass, wood, metal, and organic materials such as shells or insects. The work carries both delicacy and tension: each piece is carefully formed, then subjected to the violence of firing, so meaning, material, and transformation stay tightly bound together.
